The Great Central Train Race
SATURDAY 30TH NOVEMBER 2019
Club Treasurer, Ian Paramore, is organising a new event to race the heritage Great Central Train to raise money for the Club's current nominated charity, MOVE Against Cancer.
The challenge: beat the train back to Rothley Station
About the race
- Distance: approx. 8.8 miles
- It is not a formal race, although times will be noted
- There will be no medical cover or usual 'race' provisions, so this is run at your own risk
- This is treated as a club run so you must be a registered member of a running club to run
- Start: Great Central Rail Station Loughborough
- Finish: Great Central Rail Station Rothley
- Terrain: mixed, road and off road
Three standards
Gold - get to Rothley before Train 1 gets back to Rothley on its return journey from Leicester [Sub 57mins]
Silver - get to Rothley before Train 2 gets to Rothley from Loughborough [Sub 1hr 10mins]
Bronze - get to Rothley before Train 2 gets the Rothley on its return journey from Leicester [Sub 1hr 47mins]
Event logistics
Start time is 12 noon. Turn up at 11.30am ready to run.
Start from outside the Great Central Rail Station, Great Central Road, Loughborough, LE11 1RW.
Food and drinks are available to purchase at the Rothley Station café - a good way to support the heritage railway.
Parking
Parking on the streets around the Loughborough (GCR) Station is free, but please park considerately as cars will be left for a while.
You may wish to be dropped at Loughborough and have family and friends meet you at Rothley. The car park at Rothley Station is free.
Consider arranging with other runners to leave a car at Rothley and Loughborough to 'taxi' back.
Or catch the train back to Loughborough for a lovely way to finish.
If you have family, why not buy the family ticket for them to ride on the train whilst you run? And then all get the train back to Loughborough.
How to take part
Taking part is free, but Ian would like to know firm numbers ahead of the day.
This is treated as a club run so you must be a registered member of a running club to run.
It would be great if you could donate to 'MOVE' via Ian's Just Giving page (please give your name and club).
Or email Ian directly: [email protected] or text him on 07721788797 to confirm you are coming, your name, club and the donation you intend to make (if any).
Ian will then take donations on the day - cash or cheques payable to MOVE.
