Coaching Coordinator – Mick Ballard

Our previous chairman Mick remains at the heart and soul of Barrow Runners and on the committee overseeing the coaching committee for the club. Mick is ever present at training nights and events, supporting and encouraging existing members as well as welcoming newcomers.
About Me:
I am a founder member of Barrow Runners, started 1981. Initially I was Secretary when the club was first formed, and then when Dave Rose died, who was the then Chairman, I took over his role. I have been Chairman for 25 years. I have been married to Ann for 45 years. We have 4 children and 8 grandchildren. I am a retired gas engineer. I have a passion for old cars and motorbikes .
Other Interests
I have always been involved in sports. I was Chairman and Manager of Barrow Juniors Football Club and coach for at least 15 years. I have ridden in motorcycle trials all over the place including Isle of Man.
I think I was the first Barrow Runner to run Race the Train way back in 1986 when there were only 200 runners in the race. Now I think it must be way over 1000.
Greatest running achievements:
Completing 4 London Marathons in under 3 hours, my best being 2hrs 50 mins. Yes, with my little legs!
Running the old Barrow 10 miler in 58 mins.
Finished the Ashby 20 in 2hrs 5mins.
Finally being nominated for the Charnwood area award for Outstanding Contribution to Sport and Physical Activity and winning it and then being nominated for the Leics and Rutland award for Unsung Hero and winning that.
