Ian is a fully qualified UKA Athletics Coach (equivalent of the old level 2).
Ian is also part of the Race Sub Committee, responsible for organising the Barrow Boxing Day Handicap, Prestwold 10k and Tri-annual '3 Club Challenge'.
He has held several roles within the Club committee, including, Publicity Officer, Membership Secretary, Race Secretary, and Treasurer.
Ian's running story
Ian ran as a youngster at school both track and cross country, greatest achievement was representing Sheffield Schools cross country (to be fair making the numbers up rather than winning a race he would admit).
After a long break he returned to running when moving to Leicestershire in 1994 when he joined Barrow Runners.
A competitive runner in those earlier years favouring 10k distance before moving to Marathon distance races, which looking back would now be his favourite (if not most challenging distance).
Not able to compete as much as before or he would like due to long term injury, Ian moved into coaching with an aim of helping others.
