Club Chairman & Race Director – Andrew Unitt

Andrew's role

As well as Chairman duties, Andrew also takes the lead on organising the two club races held each year:

• the Prestwold 10k held in June - a Leicestershire Road Running League race with 900 entries
• the Boxing Day handicap – a fun race with around 300 entries, many in fancy dress, run from Barrow on Boxing Day every year

The races raise money to help the club fund its activities and Andrew and the rest of the Race Committee have enjoyed fantastic support from club members over the years to help with everything which needs to be done – race days are a big Barrow Runners team effort!

Andrew's running story

Andrew has been running fairly seriously for 20 years, basically since his wife Angela suggested that instead of talking about running the London Marathon he should just go and run it! He has been a member of Barrow Runners for around 12 years.

There have been 14 marathons over the years, including the six "marathon majors", but his real love is racing any distance over any terrain in any weather with a group from the club and enjoying the camaraderie of the day.

Still chasing PBs, but now on an age adjusted basis (he loves a running statistic or two).
