The Barrow Runners Summer Championship came to an exciting conclusion at Abbey Park parkrun on Saturday. Whilst Rachel Bentley had already secured the Female Championship with a perfect score, the final race had three possible winners in the Male Championship with George Burdett, Mats Vermeeren and Jake Blythe all in contention.
The finishing positions on the day matched the overall Male Championship positions with Jake Blythe taking the title with a PB time of 18:16, George Burdett finishing 2nd with a PB time of 19:25 and Mats Vermeeren finishing 3rd with a time of 19:33.
The final race also saw Mark Platt take the Vet Male 40s title with a time of 19:36 and Jamie Moseley-Sarsfield secure third place with a PB time of 20:07.
There were also PBs for Rachel Bentley, Neil Jones, Lorna Goodacre, Helen Taylor and Sue Taylor, and many strong category positions.
We also had runners taking part in parkruns across other parts of the country and abroad including Beacon Hill Country Park, Dishley, Mura di Lucca in Italy, Penrhyn in Wales, Rushcliffe, Sherwood Pines, Watermead Country Park and Woodhouse Moor in Leeds.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Andrew Unitt took part in the Helvellyn 10k, a trail race in the Lake District. Andrew finished in 52:41, taking 3rd place in the VM60 category.
On Sunday, there was a huge marathon PB for Neil Cobley at the Yorkshire Marathon. Neil battled against Storm Ashley's wind and rain to finish in a superb 3:33:22, a PB of 8 minutes and 23 seconds!
