Undoubtedly the big event this week was our own hosting of the Watermead 10k, a debut race on the Leicester Road Running League calendar - and what an event it was! Race Director Andrew Unitt, 'Chief Organiser' Fiona Mee and over 50 volunteers did a fantastic job in putting on the race, on what was a beautiful evening. The feedback was terrific and we are hopeful that it will be a permanent fixture on the race calendar. Well done to everyone who made this such a memorable event. Thirteen Barrow Runners were lucky enough to participate in the race and there were many PBs on the night (and a number of LRAN 'gold' standard performances), no doubt helped by the flat course and the amazing support of our marshalls (not to mention the Barrow Scouts!). Jack Peasgood was first home for the club (and 11th place overall), continuing his impressive LRRL season with a sub 35 minute 10k PB (also equalling his 5k PB in the process!). There were also personal bests for Jake Blythe, Jon Foxall, Andy Gatward, George Burdett, Liv Bent and Jamie Moseley-Sarsfield. Kirsty Hillier was second in her age category and Clare Dennison had the important job of tail running the event. It perhaps should also be mentioned that Martin Mee technically crossed the line in first place, on his bike...
Elsewhere, the ever-impressive Michael Cheverton ran a rapid 16 minute 5k (a personal best) in the Mid Cheshire 5k, an event which attracts a lot of speedy runners (594 athletes ran the course in under 20 minutes!).
Beyond that, it was another busy week with parkruns. 55 Barrow Runners competed on Saturday morning in 18 different locations across the country. Men's Captain, Mark Sadler, ventured to the wonderfully named Bug Hunter Waters parkrun and picked up another age category win. Not to be outdone, Ladies' Captain, Justine Albert, was the first female home at Beacon Hill, and, further afield, Louise Male continued her fine form at Lanhydrock (Cornwall) where she was also the first female. There was a total of 24 age category placings this week which is amazing!
