The RUNdown

The main events this week were the ο»Ώreturn of the Leicestershire Road Running League for the Steve Morris 5 and the start of the Holme Pierrepont Grand Prix.

The 'Run'down - 1st July 2025

The Leicestershire Road Running League resumed this week with a return to Desford for the Steve Morris 5.

17 Barrow Runners took part in the event with Jack Peasgood again coming home first for the club. Kirsty Hillier made a triumphant return from injury, coming second in her age category, and there were some strong performances all round. A number of runners secured 5 mile PBs and the ever-improving Richard Perkins somehow managed to squeeze a 5k PB in there too. There were even confirmed sightings of Olympian Ross Davenport wearing a club vest.

This week also saw the start of the Holme Pierrepont Grand Prix - a four race event across Nottingham over the course of two weeks. Paul Leaney and Chris Jackson are representing the club in all four races and both posted impressive age category performances in the first two events. Amazingly, Paul also found time to fit in a parkrun and the LRRL event (in which he was also 3rd in his age category) this week. George Burdett also picked up a sub 40 minute 10k PB at Holme Pierrepont and is shamelessly abusing his editorial privileges to broadcast the fact.

It was another busy week on the parkrun front. A group of hardcore Barrow Runners travelled to Wales for the Erddig parkrun at Erddig Hall near Wrexham where Rachel Bentley was again the first woman home, continuing her terrific comeback. There were other reasons to celebrate as it was Rebecca Chandler's 50th parkrun and Mats Vermeeren's 50th parkrun location. Dawn Storer picked up another age category win and was first female overall at Hastings High School parkrun. Elsewhere, Martin and Fiona Mee ventured to Cheltenham for the next chapter of their running rivalry (I can't remember who's winning but this was a close one!) There were also terrific performances from some of our younger runners this week. Grace Dunkley picked up a PB and age category win at Rushcliffe. Not to be outdone, sister Hannah also PBed at the Watermead junior parkrun, as did Isla Appleyard.

Well done, all!
