The club's Summer Championships moved on to Race #7 on Sunday with the Garendon Gallop, an undulating 10k around the Garendon Park estate, in which our runners enjoyed taking in the Triumphal Arch, the Obelisk, the Temple of Venus and a rather nasty hill in the last kilometre, thoughtfully captured by paparazzi Rob Phillips' waiting camera!
Jon Foxall was first home for the club and 9th place overall in a blistering time of 39:03. Ian Cox came home second, also finishing in under 40 minutes - it was great to see him back in club colours. Justine Albert again led the way for the club's women and was also the first in her age group and third woman overall. George Burdett also picked up a trophy for an age category win while Richard Perkins and Helen Taylor again proved what excellent seasons they are having by achieving 10k PBs - on that course!
Elsewhere, Michael Cheverton and Fiona Mee travelled to the Peak District for the Dovedale Dipper, a trail event across the Dove and Manifold valleys. Both athletes performed brilliantly with Michael winning the Big Dipper (a 26 mile route) by a clear 6 minutes and Fiona crossing the finish line of the Little Dipper (a 15 mile variant) as the first woman, 9 minutes ahead of the second place runner. That is some noteworthy double dipping!
There were 45 Barrow Runners taking part in parkruns around the country on Saturday. Rebecca Chandler and Justine Albert were the first women overall at Clifton and the Beacon respectively. Reuben Sneller picked up a podium finish at Melton where Rachel Budd also picked up an age category win. There were also age category wins for Andrea Winkless, Heather Dunkley and Sue Taylor. Special mention also to Paul Meneely who ran his first parkrun in nine years and came first in the VM 65- 69 category at Dishley. What a comeback!
Well done, all!
