The club's Winter Championship continued in emphatic fashion this weekend as 32 Barrow Runners descended on Bosworth Country Park for the third race of the season on what was also the event's 3rd birthday. Barrow bobble hats and festive headgear were definitely the order of the day on a chilly and misty morning (top marks to Tony Armitage for a chimney-sized, stovepipe monstrosity). There were some terrific performances from the club on a challenging, muddy course with Michael Cheverton and Ian Hawley coming in first and second overall respectively, both finishing in under 20 minutes. Anna Munday was again the first female home, continuing her excellent season. Newer members Marcus Shepherd and Phil Rooney put in very strong performances and Danny Hall somehow managed a PB on that course - but still wasn't quick enough to arrive in time for the club photo! Thankfully, he did remember his shorts.
An incredible 15 out of the top 20 finishers were Barrow Runners and 13 of our runners were top in their age group! The race also saw one of this season's stars, Adam Law, return from injury and Collette Porter also achieved a 50th parkrun milestone (apologies for the rather woeful rendition of 'Happy Birthday', Colette!)
Further afield in parkrun land, the Dennisons visited Lurgan Park in Northern Ireland and both achieved age group placings. Tim Hartley blazed a sub 18 minute run at Beacon Hill, pushing Will Clarke close for first place in what must have been an exciting downhill finish. There were also age category wins for Jonathan Rashleigh and the Hilliers at Dishley with Ann also completing her 250th parkrun in the process - congratulations! Two of our new generation of amazing female runners also achieved age category wins on Saturday: Rachel Vatter at Keswick and Poppy Ballantine at Long Eaton.
Elsewhere, Alex Toll and Geoff Beetham competed in the 5 mile Gaddesby Gallop which seemed to involve almost as much wading as it did running. Entering into the festive spirit, Alex commented "No idea of time or place, but who cares?" - which is just as well as we are still awaiting the results.
