The RUNdown - 29th June 2026

For all intents and purposes it was just another regular week for us running lovers, although there was still some lingering heat to contend with, and I hear a bit of an undulating course on Sunday. Before that though there were some parkrun milestones to celebrate on Saturday with Danny Hall (with little fanfare) doing his 50th and long time Barrow runner Amanda Stanbridge completed her 250th at Rushcliffe. Gill Elliott continued her tour of Irish Parkruns, this week taking in a well loved Bere Island parkrun for her 200th which takes a Ferry and minibus ride to get to the start line. Junior Runner Isla Appleyard completed her parkrun as part of am impressive longer 11km run with a family friend as part of a fundraising effort, very well done.

The usual congratulations to all those that competed in the Steve Morris 5 LRRL race on Sunday, the 7th league race of the year. Our highest (and podium) finisher was Michael Cheverton with a great run, and smaller gap to the leaders than some of the previous races. First Barrow Female over the line was Rebecca Chandler, a great achievement after overcoming a recent injury and some time out of running. Draft results for that are below listed with Gun times.

On Monday this week things got really serious at the Hall Orchard Primary Sports day where 2 of Barrow runners most elite athletes took on a parent's race in the name of honour and manliness. Participants Jon Foxall and Reuben Sneller went head to head much to the intimidation of the rest of the field. Apparently we will never know who won, but there will forever be discussion about the footwear (or lack thereof) and excuses about the various outcomes that might have been under different circumstances. It sounds like fun was had by all, Luka Yates was sad to have missed the occasion. In Jon's words, sport was the winner this day!
