The RUNdown - 19 October 2026
There was a whole host of PBs this week at distances from parkrun to marathon as the 11th club championship race took place at Watermead Country Park and a group took on the Amsterdam Marathon.
Watermead delivered a host of PBs (particularly for the ladies) as the club descended on the fast, flat course. The ladies took the top 4 podium positions at the parkrun this week, with all 4 dipping below 21 minutes. This just leaves our final race of the summer club championships, being the Mad Mile on Thursday, with some podium places still to be decided.
Four of our runners made the trip to the Netherlands to take part in the notoriously fast (read 'flat') Amsterdam marathon. Unexpected rain and some gusty winds didn't deter our awesome foursome from the task in hand, as all 4 came with big PBs. Our very own superman, Michael Cheverton, improved on his already amazing PB by 5 minutes to run a 2 hr 30 marathon. One of this year's break out stars, Harry O'Brien, broke (sorry, 'smashed') the 3 hour barrier for the first time. Veteran George Burdett liked the race so much last year, he came back for more (foregoing Chester and Chicago places) and shaved another 7 minutes off last year's time, edging towards the elusive 3 hour mark. Perhaps best of all, Danny Hall incredibly improved his best marathon time by a whopping 1 hour and 15 minutes which is a testament to the hard work he has put in this year. Well done, all or 'Goed Gadaan' as they might say in the Netherlands!
Elsewhere, Claire Hutson took on the much trickier terrain of the Yorkshire marathon in what is only her second attempt at the distance. She says she won't be doing another for a while but we've all heard that before - once the marathon bug gets you... Well done, Claire.
In the 'Eternal City' of Rome, head coach Ian Paramore sneakily dropped in a half-marathon as part of an extended European jaunt, leaving heavily armoured Roman centurions in the dust. Rumours that Ian was heard shouting 'Veni Vidi Vici' as he crossed the line have so far been unsubstantiated.
