The weekend began with the Winter Championships race at Braunstone parkrun on Saturday morning. Jack Peasgood was first home overall in a fantastic time of 17:24, followed by Richard Keep in 19:59 and Mark Platt in 20:40. Andrea Winkless was the first female Barrow Runner home in 23:23, and she was also there to celebrate her 100th parkrun! Rachel Bentley and Louise Male came in shortly behind Andrea.
On Sunday, we had runners at the Derby Runners Cross Country League race at Ravenstone, the Leicestershire Half Marathon and the Bath "Two Tunnels" Half Marathon.
At Ravenstone, Jack Peasgood was first home for Barrow Runners, finishing in 3rd position overall. Mats Vermeeren and James Woodford were second and third Barrow Runners home respectively. First home for the ladies was Rachel Bentley in 5th place overall. Justine Albert and Rebecca Chandler were second and third Barrow Runners respectively. We also had junior member Tilly Bowles running the cross country following Watermead parkrun the day before for her 8th birthday. Tilly ran another great race and showed us all what proper running form looks like!
At the Leicestershire Half Marathon, a hilly course in tough conditions, Jon Foxall was first Barrow Runner home in a fantastic time of 01:25:16. Jake Blythe was second Barrow Runner home in 01:28:59, finishing 3rd in the U20 category. George Burdett was third Barrow Runner home in 1:34:50. There was plenty to celebrate in this race too, with PBs for Helen Taylor (01:54:00) and a debut half marathon race for David Ewen (02:01:23). Additionally, Claire Dennison finished 2nd in the VF55 category.
There was more to celebrate outside of the midlands, with Neil Jones running the Bath "Two Tunnels" Half Marathon in a PB time of 01:42:06.
